Why Holistic
Learning is more than knowing.
Some of the most important human abilities are developed through actual experience rather than knowledge alone.
Experience
Relationship
Reflection
Action
How we learn through life.
MoveWell
Learning through movement, physical experience and action.

FeelWell
Learning to understand emotions, inner experience and relationships.
CareWell
Learning about care, companionship and how we accompany one another.

AgeWell
Learning about ageing, time, memory and the different stages of life.
Where We Began
We began with movement.

50+ Running Programme
Our 50+ Running Programme supported adults aged 50+ in reconnecting with movement, gradually building physical confidence and taking on increasingly meaningful running challenges. The journey developed from regular training into longer-distance challenges, with participation in the Hong Kong Marathon 10K as a finale milestone.
The original idea was simple: help adults aged 50+ reconnect with physical activity and take the next step. But over time, confidence grew, relationships formed and participants began imagining new possibilities for themselves. That experience became an important starting point for how Holistic understands learning today.
What We Learned
What began as running became something more.
Confidence
Taking on a challenge can change how someone sees their own ability.
Connection
A shared journey can create relationships beyond the activity itself.
Possibility
Trying something new later in life can expand what still feels possible.
What comes next.
We are building from our experience in movement into a wider exploration of how people learn through emotions, relationships, care and different stages of life.
In development
Emotional learning through everyday experience
Human-animal companionship and care
Life stories, ageing and unfinished wishes
New forms of movement and active ageing
A REAL JOURNEY
Some changes happen long before the finish line.
A group of runners aged 50+ began simply by moving again, one step at a time, towards a 10K challenge.
Some had never taken part in a running race. Some had not exercised regularly for years. Others had once thought their limits were already set.
But sometimes, all it takes is a beginning.

Voices from the journey
“In training, you learn when to speed up and when to slow down. Life is much the same. After years of pushing forward at full pace, perhaps now is the time to slow down, experience life and appreciate the journey.”
— Coach Tsui Chi-kin
“I realised I could still push beyond myself. New challenges kept coming — and so did the surprises.”
— Ms Lee
“I want to keep experiencing life and discovering what it has to offer. This is a road I have never travelled before.”
— Mr Hui
About the journey
This was the Holistic Teaching & Learning Association’s first community programme, developed in partnership with Tuen Mun District Recreation Centre.
